Protesters, including members of the Take It Back Movement, Civil Society Organisations, and the Niger Delta Congress, had converged at Isaac Boro Park to stage their rally. However, police officers confronted the group and asked them to relocate.
Undeterred, the protesters broke into solidarity songs and began marching within the park before proceeding toward the Aba Express Road.
At CFC junction, anti-riot police operatives intercepted them again and ordered them off the street. When they refused, the officers responded by launching tear gas canisters, forcing the crowd to scatter for safety.
Details of the incident are still emerging.
