Arsenal have reached a £55.5m agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Although Aubameyang is desperate to join the Gunners, the North London club had been trying to thrash out terms with Dortmund who initially demanded £60m for the striker. Aubameyang, 28, is expected to sign a £180,000-a-week contract with Arsenal before Wednesday’s deadline, Guardian reports.
You recall that in 2016, the Borussia Dortmund forward has fuelled more fire that a potential move to Bernabeu is likely. When talking about his side’s chances in their Champions League clash against Madrid on Tuesday, the 27-year-old striker refused point blank to comment on speculation of a move there.
It could be that the Gabon man didn’t want to cause any upset on either side ahead of the game, but his goalscoring prowess will have no doubt been noted at the Bernabeu. He has scored four goals in the last ten days, against Legia Warsaw, Wolfsburg and Freiburg.
And last season he bagged an incredible 39 goals in 49 games, prompting Paris Saint-Germain and reportedly Tottenham and Manchester City to sniff around. But Real Madrid could be a more likely destination, especially considering his apparent liking for the Spanish outfit. He had promised his grandfather, who died two years ago, that one day he would become a “Galactico.”
The Gabonese striker was named the African footballer of the year in 2015.
Nice move
