The duo will take the stage at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 11 to perform “Dai Dai” before hosts Mexico face South Africa in the opening match of the expanded tournament. The title, an Italian expression meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” has been chosen as the competition’s official anthem.
They will be joined at the ceremony by Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer Tyla, adding to a star-studded entertainment lineup for the event.
The World Cup’s opening celebrations will also take place in the other host nations, Canada and the United States, ahead of their first matches.
In Toronto, Canadian music icons Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will headline festivities at BMO Field before Canada’s clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.
On the same day in Los Angeles, pop superstar Katy Perry and rapper Future will perform at SoFi Stadium before the United States take on Paraguay.
Shakira is also scheduled to return for the tournament’s grand finale on July 19, where she will share the stage with Madonna and K-pop group BTS during a Super Bowl-style halftime show.
