Tuggar resigns as Foreign Affairs Minister

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tuggar, a member of the All Progressives Congress, reportedly submitted his resignation letter on Monday, barely 24 hours before the deadline set by the presidency.

Bola Tinubu had directed all political appointees with electoral ambitions to vacate their offices on or before March 31, 2026.

The directive, conveyed through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, mandates compliance in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.

With this development, more resignations are expected in the coming days as appointees seeking elective offices move to meet the stipulated deadline.
