Assault on VIO officials will not go unpunished – Lagos govt

The Lagos State government has condemned the recent assault on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) at the Mile 2 area of the state, vowing that the perpetrators will face the full weight of the law.

In a statement on Thursday, Commissioner for Transportation , Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the attack as “appalling and utterly reprehensible,” stressing that it was not only an assault on the officers but also on the authority of the state government.

“It will never go unpunished,” he promised, adding that “The perpetrators of this disgraceful attack will be relentlessly pursued, apprehended, and made to face the law.”

He emphasised that VIOs are legally empowered agents of the state, mandated to enforce road safety and safeguard lives.

According to him, attacking them amounts to undermining the rule of law and threatening public order.

The commissioner disclosed that the injured officers are responding to treatment, but insisted that the severity of the attack underscores the government’s resolve to ensure justice.
