Speaking during an event in Kano on Thursday, Kwankwaso claimed that since taking office, the Tinubu-led government has concentrated its efforts largely on the Southern region, leaving the North underdeveloped and struggling with insecurity.
“The federal government must ensure fair distribution of national resources,” Kwankwaso said. He alleged that the current national budget is heavily skewed in favor of the South, while Northern states continue to suffer from poor infrastructure and limited federal presence.
His remarks come just 48 hours after he visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Although the purpose of the meeting remains undisclosed, speculation is rife that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may be courting Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections.
During his speech, Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, criticized the state of northern roads and recounted his own experience traveling by road from Abuja to Kano due to flight delays.
“From Abuja to Kaduna to Kano was hell. The road is terrible—started many years ago under the APC and still unfinished. Meanwhile, we hear of a new road from the South to the East. We support development anywhere in the country, but not when it’s done at the expense of the North,” he said.
He further condemned the federal government’s failure to address insecurity in the North, stressing that the region has been abandoned.
Kwankwaso called on President Tinubu and the APC to adopt a more inclusive approach to governance and ensure that all parts of the country benefit equally from national development.
