The Obidient Movement is not directorate of any particular political party - Peter Obi says

Peter Obi has stated that the Obidient Movement, made up of his supporters, is not a directorate of any particular political party.

He wrote on X: "I like to categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not directorate of any particular political party. Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not members of the broader Obidient Movement.
Obi made the disclaimer following the Labour Party (LP)’s recent decision to establish an “Obidient Directorate”.

Recall, the National Chairman of the LP, Julius Abure, had, in a move aimed at dousing tensions and rebuilding confidence of other stakeholders in the party, announced the formation of the directorate to coordinate its affairs.

As part of its repositioning efforts, the Labour Party announced the establishment of the Obedient Directorate. It appointed Marcel Ngogbehei as Director, Aju Elumelu as Deputy Director (Diaspora), and Mariam Ismaila as Deputy Director.

The Labour Party’s move to formalise the Obidient Directorate and integrate its members into the party structure angered the Obidient Movement.

They viewed the creation of the directorate and the appointment of individuals without consulting Peter Obi or the core movement as an overreach. Members of the Obidient Movement denounced the party’s decision arguing that it was an attempt to usurp its grassroots-driven force.

They also alleged that the move to create an Obidient Directorate within the Labour Party was aimed at undermining the popularity of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Obi's statement on X makes it clear that he stands with the Obidient Movement and he is not in support of the Labour Party creating the Obidient Directorate.
