NDLEA arrests notorious drug kingpin, Kanmo Kanmo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has finally arrested Lekan Jimoh, widely known as “Kanmo-Kanmo,” a notorious drug kingpin who had been on the run for over a decade in connection with the killing of three NDLEA officers. The agency disclosed that Jimoh was arrested on Friday after operatives tracked him to a hideout in Owode, Ogun State. Tactical teams moved in on the location and successfully captured him, ending a 12-year search marked by repeated evasions and violent confrontations with law enforcement. The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi. He revealed that officers recovered 69 kilograms of skunk, a cannabis variant, from the suspect at the time of his arrest.
According to the agency, Jimoh had built a reputation for drug trafficking, resisting arrest, and deploying armed gangs against security operatives. His most infamous crime dates back to June 15, 2014, when he allegedly coordinated a brutal mob attack on NDLEA officers attempting to arrest him at his base. The assault led to the deaths of three officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure, after they were overpowered by thugs mobilized by Jimoh. While he escaped during the attack, the agency maintained an active manhunt for him. Jimoh narrowly evaded arrest again on August 12, 2023, when NDLEA operatives raided his residence in Ado-Odo, Ogun State. Although he fled before officers could apprehend him, they recovered 139 sacks of skunk weighing a total of 1,922 kilograms. The property, which was allegedly used as a storage hub for illicit drugs, was later forfeited to the Federal Government following court proceedings initiated by the NDLEA. The agency described Jimoh’s eventual arrest as a major breakthrough, stressing that it reinforces its resolve to ensure fugitives are brought to justice regardless of how long they evade capture.
