Supreme court declares dissolution of Oyo Local Government Councils as illegal

The Supreme court on Friday May 7, declared the dissolution of local government councils in Oyo state as illegal. The apex court also condemned their replacement with caretaker committees.

 It said the replacement of the council chairman with caretaker committees is unlawful. 

 Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state was widely criticized after he sacked all the local government chairpersons in the state and appointed caretaker chairmen in May 2019.
