Gunmen Abduct Four Local Government Workers In Kogi

Four local government workers of Mopa-Muro Local Government Area of Kogi State have been kidnapped by gunmen.

The victims – Olu Abraham, Fehintola Osho and Balogun Blessing and the head of department of works were said to have been abducted along Kabba-Obajana Road on their way to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, for screening.

The incident which happened on Tuesday and Wednesday was disclosed on Wednesday on the floor of the Kogi State House of Assembly by the member representing Mopa-Muro constituency, Pedro Obaro.

Obaro noted that the poor condition of the Kabba-Obajana Road had made it a haven for kidnappers.

He said, “On Tuesday the HOD, Works, of the Mopa Muro LGA was abducted while on her way to Lokoja. His whereabouts is presently not known.”

“This morning (Wednesday), I was informed that three staff members of the same LGA were kidnapped.”

Members of the Assembly reached a consensus that the state government should deploy sufficient security personnel in the area and also ensure a 24-hour patrol on the road to forestall a recurrence.

The legislative chamber also directed the House Committee on Security and Judiciary to liaise with the state Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Chafe, to work out proactive measures to tackle the insecurity in the state and facilitate the safe release of the kidnap victims.
