Uganda Police on Monday arrested the presidential candidate of main opposition party, The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Kizza Besigye, as he was trying to access Nasser road through Jinja road, in the capital, Kampala.
His arrest followed his procession from Kamwokya where he was heading the city centre and refused to adhere to police to use Mukwano road instead of Jinja road.
Police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of supporters, who were escorting him, eyewitnesses said.
Mr Besigye is one of seven opposition candidates seeking to end President Yoweri Museveni’s 30-year rule in Thursday’s election.
