The intervention, which begins in November 2026, was approved during negotiations with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja on Tuesday, October 27.
The agreement also covers outstanding peculiar allowances, health workers’ arrears and other welfare demands, although disagreements over the effective date of the national minimum wage implementation remain unresolved.
The transport intervention will cover public servants across all levels for six months, according to a memorandum of understanding signed at the end of the meeting.
The document stated:

The government also approved the payment of outstanding peculiar allowance arrears, effective from May 1, 2026.
The arrears will be settled in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November, although the memorandum did not disclose the total amount involved or the individual payment breakdown.
The agreement was signed by the Director-General of Budget, Timi Yakubu; NLC President, Joe Ajaero; the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Garba Abdul S.U.; and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi.
