Senegal secures AFCON trophy under military protection

Tensions continue to rise over Senegal’s controversial technical defeat in the AFCON final, with fresh developments adding to the uncertainty.

Reports by Topskills UK Sports claim that head coach Pape Thiaw recently took the Africa Cup of Nations trophy to a military base in Senegal, where soldiers were allowed to handle it and take photos.

Sources indicate the trophy has now been kept at the facility under tight security, guarded by armed personnel.
The decision is believed to be driven by concerns that Senegal could be forced to surrender the title after CAF awarded them a technical defeat and named Morocco as champions.

The situation remains unresolved as the Court of Arbitration for Sport reviews Senegal’s appeal, leaving the African football community awaiting a final decision.

Should the ruling go in Morocco’s favour, Senegal would be required to relinquish the trophy and officially hand it over.
