Many confirmed de.ad as Gunmen open fire in Plateau

Several people have been k!lled in an attack at Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly took place around 8pm on Sunday at a popular local bar, where residents came under sporadic gunfire from unidentified armed men, believed to be cultists.

At least 12 people have been confirmed de.ad, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

In response, the Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North, effective from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the state’s Information Commissioner, described the attack as a “tragic security incident.”

“‎The government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, strongly condemns this barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens and assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement read. “‎Citizens are urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing any useful information that may aid ongoing investigations.”

Troops from Sector 1 of Operation Enduring Peace have been deployed to the area to prevent further violence and restore order.
