INEC fixes Feb 20th, 2027 for presidential election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed February 20, 2027, for the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls will take place on March 6, 2027.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the timetable during a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

The schedule was unveiled amid concerns surrounding the delayed passage of the amended Electoral Act, which is currently before the National Assembly.

Earlier, on February 4, the commission stated that it had finalised preparations for the election timetable and related activities despite the pending legislation.

INEC also confirmed that it had submitted the proposed schedule to lawmakers, but warned that certain aspects of its plans could be adjusted depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually passed.
