Governor Fubara arrives Port-Harcourt

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has returned to Port Harcourt more than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six-month state of emergency in the state.

Fubara’s flight touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport around 12:19 p.m. on Friday, where he was received by a large crowd of supporters who had gathered at the VIP wing to welcome him.

Although the State House of Assembly resumed sitting on Thursday, Fubara was absent from the Government House despite the presence of hundreds of supporters waiting to receive him.

Former governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said Fubara was not legally obliged to resume work on Thursday.

Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been out of office for six months after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency on March 18, following a prolonged political crisis in the state.

During the emergency period, retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas served as sole administrator. He officially handed over power on Wednesday night and urged political stakeholders to embrace dialogue and mutual respect in a statewide broadcast.
