Lagos DSVA and NAPTIP to investigate Speed Darlington’s viral video

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have initiated a joint investigation into allegations against entertainer Speed Darlington following a viral Instagram Live video.

In the video, narrated in Igbo, Darlington allegedly confessed to defiling a 15-year-old girl at a hotel approximately ten years ago, mentioning bloodied sheets and paying hotel staff N2,000 to replace them.

The DSVA responded on X, labeling the video “disturbing” but noting that the unspecified location of the incident limits their jurisdiction to Lagos State.

They promptly escalated the case to NAPTIP, stating, “In line with our commitment to justice, we have referred the matter to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.”
NAPTIP, in an X post, questioned whether the video was a skit and confirmed collaboration with the DSVA, who replied, “We are in this together!” Both agencies have called for public assistance, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
The investigation was spurred by widespread outrage on X, where users tagged authorities and highlighted Darlington’s alleged history of concerning behavior, including a 2022 incident involving accusations of inappropriate conduct with a 16-year-old girl.

The DSVA and NAPTIP are actively pursuing the case, underscoring Lagos State’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence and their commitment to protecting Nigerian children.
