Canadian petition to revoke Elon Musk’s citizenship gathers more than 250,000 signatures

More than 250,000 Canadian residents have signed a parliamentary petition urging Canada to revoke Elon Musk’s citizenship and passport.

Musk’s relationship with US President Donald Trump, who plans to levy a 25% tariff on all Canadian imports next month and proposed annexing the country as the 51st state, is “against the national interest of Canada,” the petitioners claim.

The tech billionaire, a citizen of South African, Canada, and the US, has become one of Trump’s main allies since the 47th president began his second term last month.

“He has used his wealth and power to influence our elections,” the petition claims. “He has now become a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty.”

In a response to news about the petition, Musk wrote on his social media network X that “Canada is not a real country.”

The petition, addressed to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, demands that he “revoke Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status, and revoke his Canadian passport effective immediately.”

There are serious legal doubts as to the ability of the government to revoke Musk’s legally obtained citizenship.

Musk, who was born in Pretoria, South Africa, has previously said that he obtained a Canadian passport as a teenager through his mother, Maye Musk, who was born in Canada. The billionaire later obtained US citizenship a decade after arriving in the US on a student visa.

An electronic parliamentary petition requires the initial support of at least five Canadians, the authorization of a member of parliament, and an initial review before it can start to gather signatures, according to Canada’s House of Commons.

The petition to revoke Musk’s citizenship is open until June 20, 2025, after which the clerk of petitions will have to certify that at least 500 of its signatures are legitimate. From there, the petition must wait until a new session of parliament opens before it can be presented to the House of Commons for debate.

Trump’s frequent statemnt of intent to make Canada the “51st state,” has relocated mixed reactions in Canada as the US president has gone as far as mocking Trudeau on social media as the “Governor” of Canada.

In early February, Trudeau warned a gathering of private sector executives that Trump’s threat to annex Canada “is a real thing,” according to two business leaders who heard the prime minister’s remarks.

Senator Natasha sues Senate President Akpabio for defamation, demands ₦100bn in damages

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a defamation suit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio over defamatory remarks about her.

The lawsuit filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court stated that the lawyer of Senator Natasha Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that a post shared on the Facebook page of a user with the handle “Patrick” insinuated that the senator focuses more on makeup and transparent outfits than legislative duties.

He described these assumptions as defamatory and damaging to her reputation.

Senator Natasha is seeking a court declaration that the statement was defamatory, an injunction preventing further such publications, and ₦100 billion in damages along with ₦300 million in litigation costs.

The lawsuit follows days after a video circulated online captured the moment Senate President Godswill Akpabio ordered the removal of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, from the Senate chamber which resulted in a clash.

The Kogi senator has since been referred to the Senate Disciplinary Committee over the incident.

Open Heaven 26 February 2025 Wednesday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye

TOPIC: The Thorny Ground [26 Wednesday, February 2025]

MEMORISE: “And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.” – Mark 4:7 (KJV)

  READ: Mark 4:18-19 (KJV)

18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Deuteronomy 16-19

  MESSAGE

Today, I will continue my discussion on the different kinds of soils by examining thorny grounds. Thorns are dangerous, and they choke everything they come in contact with. When people lead lifestyles that drain them financially because they want to show off, they are sowing on thorny ground. For example, such people may rent apartments that their income can hardly sustain, buy expensive clothes and jewellery that they cannot afford and get into unnecessary debt just to sustain their fake lifestyles.

When you live an extravagant life, you are putting your money in thorny ground. An adage says, ‘Cut your coat according to your cloth. Beloved, you must learn to live within your means and not make lifestyle decisions based on resources you do not have – some people fall into this trap because of their circle of friends. The Scripture says that blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly (Psalm 1:1).

If you have friends who spend lavishly without counting the cost, you might follow suit and end up in debt. Thorns can also refer to things that cause pockets to have holes. When the Israelites returned from exile in Babylon, they started building the temple, and at some point, they stopped and concentrated only on building their houses and empires. Haggai rebuked them for becoming self-centred and neglecting God’s house, telling them that they will never be satisfied with the things they have because of their attitude (Haggai 1:4-6).

God will not release His wisdom for financial abundance to those who will consume the wealth He gives them on their lusts. If all you care about is yourself, you are filling your ground with thorns because selfishness chokes God’s blessings upon a man’s life. Many people pray and fast for financial breakthroughs; however, few receive financial wisdom for such breakthroughs because God cannot trust them not to waste the wealth He gives them on their lusts.

Can God trust you to continue to put Him first after He has blessed you financially? Will you still care for His kingdom when you arrive at your desired financial destination? Beloved, ask the Lord to remove any attitude that tends to choke His blessings in your life and promise Him that you will always put Him first so that He can pour His blessings on you.

PRAYER POINT: Father, search my heart and take away every thorny attitude that will keep me from accessing your wisdom for financial abundance, in Jesus’ name.
