Bauchi Varsity ASUU Gives Important Update On Its Indefinite Strike

The indefinite strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, at Sa’adu Zungur University, SAZU, has been suspended.

Recall that the indefinite strike began two weeks ago. ASUU initiated the strike on November 29, demanding the implementation of pension and death benefit schemes for staff, as well as the payment of earned academic and excess workload allowances.

However, the ASUU branch in the State owned university resolved to end the strike following a meeting held on December 14, 2024, at the Yuli Campus.

The ASUU Chairperson, Comrade Auwal Nuhu in a statement issued on Monday, confirmed the development, noting that an agreement had been reached with the state government through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

According to the statement, the decision to suspend the strike was due to productive discussions the leadership of the Union had with the State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

“These developments underscore the government’s commitment to improving education in Bauchi State,” Comrade Nuhu said, commending Governor Mohammed’s proactive stance.

Following the assurances from the State Government, the union unanimously decided to suspend the strike immediately.

However, Comrade Nuhu emphasised ASUU’s commitment to monitoring the implementation of the agreements to ensure compliance.
