Police arrest two burglars for stabbing man to death in Yobe

Yobe State Police Command in collaboration with sister security agencies, apprehended 30 suspects for criminal conspiracy, homicide, theft, burglary and other crimes in Damaturu.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, said two of the arrested suspects, 25-year-old Mohammed Garba and 22-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed, stabbed a man to death while fleeing after breaking into a house.
 
 
"Recall that on 14 February, 2024 at about 0418hrs, one Haruna Mohd of Hausari ward, Damaturu in an effort to grab a fleeing culprit having broken into a house and stole cellphones with some valuable items, was stabbed with a sharp object on his abdomen which resulted to his death," the statement read.
 
"Following a series of complaints from residents of Damaturu and beyond of the resurgence of burglary and theft by midnight marauders, the command and sister security agencies in the state intensified its raids and patrol of criminal hideouts.
 
"Eventually the culprits responsible for the homicide were arrested among 30 other syndicates members. 
 
"Exhibits recovered include a knife and five cellphones of different makes.
 
"Among the culprits, one Mohd Garba A.K.A Sara Dikko aged 25 of Poweri ward, Damaturu confessed to the homicide, saying he and one Ibrahim Mohd A.K.A Boy, aged 22 after succeeded in breaking into a house and stole cellphones and in the course of escaping the scene they were followed and consequently he use a sharp knife to stab the victim who almost caught him.
 
"The Command sympathizes with the bereaved family and assures the community of appropriate punishment on the culprits, stressing to take more strategic measures to avert future occurrence.
 
"Most of the culprits arrested have served imprisonment terms in the past for similar offences.
 
"Meanwhile, discrete investigation has since commenced for subsequent prosecution
 
"The command urges good members of the communities to support security agencies by providing useful information of any suspicious movements and criminals hideouts.
