BBNaija Laycon reveals he has Sickle Cell

Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) finalist, Laycon, has revealed that he has sickle Cell, leaving housemates worried about his health. 

 As every housemate disclosed what their blood group was, Laycon said he does not like to reveal his genotype because when he does people think he is sick. 

 He went on to disclose to Dorathy and Vee in a conversation that he is sickle cell anemic. He has been in a cheerful mood throughout the program and his energy level didn’t even make people suspect him to be having sickle cell in his genotype. Dorathy quickly asked; “so, that is why you are thin!” 

 What is Genotype SC that Laycon has? 

SC genotype is seen in persons who have inherited the gene for hemoglobin S from one parent and the gene for hemoglobin C from the other. 

 Hemoglobin SC disease, is a type of sickle cell disease and the second most common after SS, which means it affects the shape of the red blood cells . Red blood cells contain a protein called hemoglobin, which is responsible for carrying blood throughout the body.
