A 15-year-old British boy stabbed his parents in front of shocked tourists and then threw himself down a 50ft ravine on Tenerife last night.
Police said it was a very violent knife attack which left tourists stunned in the crowded bars and restaurants of Costa Adeje.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and the boy's mother was taken to a nearby A&E while his father was transferred to the University Hospital on the other side of the island.
The teenager is said to be in a very serious condition at another hospital. He has not been formally detained but is being guarded by agents of the National Police.
At this stage, it is being treated as a case of family domestic violence and the mental state of the teenager is believed to have contributed.
