The Ogun state police command have arrested two self acclaimed pastors, Chukwuka Stephen and Ejim Stephen, for allegedly killing their brother-in-law, Peter Chukwuyem, on the 5th of February 2019.
A statement by the state police command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, says the victim who married the elder sister of the two suspects brought them from their village in Delta State to Papa Ibafo in Ogun State where the two of them lived with the couple for sometime.
During this period, the self-acclaimed pastors used the frontage of the home of the deceased to carry out their church activities. However, when their activities became unbearable as they caused noise pollution in the area, the deceased asked them to stop. This did not go down well down well with the men. And they held a grudge.
The statement added that on February 5th, the brothers trailed their in-law to his farm where they hacked him to death with a matchete. When the deceased didn’t return home on time on the said day, his wife became worried and traced him to the farm where she found his body.
She subsequently went to Ibafo police station where she lodged a complaint.
The two brothers were later arrested by the police at Ibafo on account of the two daughters of the deceased who informed the police that they saw the two of them earlier in their father’s farm.
When interrogated, the pastors confessed to killing the deceased in his farm because he deprived them of continuing using his frontage for their church activities.
The police say they will be charged to court soon.
