Human traffickers who leaked nude videos of victim, sentenced to jail

Two human traffickers who leaked nude videos of their victim, have been sentenced to 12-years in jail by a court which sat in Lagos.



The two human traffickers identified as Terry Homuere Smooth and Prescilla Bassey Effiong, were reportedly the madams who a victim of human trafficking, Chisom, was spotted naked in a viral social media video in 2015 swearing allegiance to.

Chisom had pledged to serve her, pay thirty thousand United States Dollars, and abide by her rules or the video would be released to the public. However officers of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), arrested the first and second defendants were arrested on the 19th and 21st August 2015 respectively after gathering intelligence and embarking on a detailed surveillance.

The suspects who were arraigned on two count charge under section 14(b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, which criminalises the export of another person from Nigeria, knowing or having reason to know, that the person wiII be forced or induced into prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation in the country to which the person is exported or while in transit, were found guilty on 27th November, 2018.

Justice O.O. Oguntoyinbo who passed his judgement on the case, sentenced them as follows: on count one, the prisoners were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment and one million Naira, and five years’ imprisonment in respect of count two. The terms of imprisonment are to run concurrently starting from the date they were arraigned in court.
