Shiites and security operatives clash again in Abuja

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, INM a.k.a Shiites who took to the streets of Abuja again today to protest against the continued detention of their leader, El-Zakzaky, clashed with security operatives again.

This is third clash between Shiites and security operatives in 3 days, and it was gathered that they were in their numbers matching to the Central Business District of Abuja when they were stopped by men of the Nigeria Police, who fired gunshots and teargas to disperse them.

Recall that on Saturday which was the first day of the recent clash, troops from the Army Headquarters Garrison at Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, reportedly gunned down six followers of the sect. The Army, however, claimed responsibility for three deaths.

Eyewitnesses alleged that since the clash, there has been heavy security presence in all the major entry points into the city, in an attempt to curb anarchy and loss of lives. It was further gathered that Soldiers and policemen manned public parks, the federal secretariat and other major government institutions.
