WWE have revealed that Brian Christopher has died aged 46. The former tag-team and light heavyweight champion was the son of Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, and achieved worldwide fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s as part of the Too Cool faction alongside Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty.
Christopher emerged onto the wrestling scene in the early 1990s, and appeared frequently in the Memphis based promotion that his legendary father owned. Despite the success his father had in the same territory, Christopher soon made a name for himself as a natural villain, and became a light heavyweight performer in WWE soon after. Christopher’s four year career in WWE saw him win multiple championships, and it was his work in Too Cool that finally turned the career villain into a beloved hero.
WWE’s statement confirmed the news, after Christopher’s death with the following statement:
WWE is saddened to learn that Brian Christopher Lawler, who is best known in WWE as Too Cool’s Grandmaster Sexay, has passed away. Lawler, who is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, competed during the height of the Attitude Era. WWE extends its condolences to Lawler’s family, friends and fans.
Christopher spent the last weeks of his life in prison, after being arrested for a DUI and evading arrest. Many WWE stars expressed their grief at the news on social media, including Triple H who called it ‘a tragic loss of life.’
