8 things to avoid during an interview for your dream job

At this time in Nigeria, there are so many people looking for jobs and it’s hard to land your dream job, especially when you look at all of the other really qualified candidates.
Read simple tips put together to give you an edge over your peers.

Be on time
It’s said if you’re on time, you’re late but if you arrive 5 minutes early, you’re on time. That being said, factor in all of the traffic issues and sibling distractions and make it to the interview in time. That’s a simple way to make an impression.

Not too meek
Now, we all know modesty is a virtue but maybe not quite in the interview room. You definitely want to respectfully showcase your strengths and abilities. Let them know why you should be picked above others.

Too forward
I know the first question on the mind of any job seeker, especially in an economy that isn’t thriving, is how much are they paying. Now, it’s okay if that’s on your mind not on your lips during the interview. You want to wait till you’re offered the job.

Know your boss
Do a proper research not only about the position you’re being considered for but also about the employer and the history of the company and all that you need to know really.

Overly friendly
There is a certain courtesy and set of rules that go with an professional environment, especially when you’re making a first impression. Don’t get too chummy or lose yourself and talking about your landlord or your girlfriend’s ex that you hate.

Be loyal
There will always come a time during the interview when they ask you about your former boss or why you left your former job. At this point, it is critical to choose your words wisely. You don’t want to insult your former boss and seem like a bitter person. An answer like it wasn’t the right fit always suffices.

Be honest
This is the one single thing you could do to tank your interview. What most interviewees don’t know is that the interviewers research you just as much as you do them. So, do yourself a favor and be honest about who you are and your credentials.

Look appropriate
Regardless of what day of the week you get your interview, always look sharp and respectable. The fact that it is Friday doesn’t mean that you should have on denim pants and a casual tee or that you should show cleavage because they state business casual as their dress code.
I hope this article helps you in landing your dream job
